STAR Internet Standard Kit: High-Speed, Low-Latency Internet

How reliable is the Star Internet Mini?

Star Internet dishes are engineered to be intuitive to set up and use. The Mini is even more so since it’s meant to be used on the go. Just like the Standard dish, the time I set up the Mini for the first time, it took several minutes to update the software so I could start using it. In fact, every time I break it out to connect, it usually takes a few minutes for the Mini to begin communicating with satellites. However, once it does, it maintains its connection, even if you move it around. I took it with me on a brief road trip, securing it to my dashboard and turning off my smartphone’s 5G. I was able to stream my music and podcasts as I drove on the freeway and didn’t experience any interruptions. My passengers could also easily connect to the Mini with their phones and use the web at the same time.

What is a good internet speed?

01

Download speed

The speed at which your device pulls data from the internet. Usually measured in Mbps or Gbps.

02

Upload speed

The speed at which your device sends data to the internet. Usually measured in Mbps or Gbps.

03

Latency (Ping)

The time (measured in milliseconds) it takes for a signal to travel from your device to an internet server and back. Lower latency means your connection has a better response time for activities like gaming and livestreams.

Star Internet is a compact, portable kit that can easily fit in a backpack, designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet on the go.

How does the Starlink internet speed test work?

The speed test connects to our test server and sends data files over your connection. By measuring how long it takes for these files to travel from your device, to the satellite, to our server, and back again, We can learn a lot about the speed and performance of your connection.

To get the most accurate reading of your connection, plug your device directly into your router using an ethernet cable, rather than connecting over Wi-Fi.

Why is my internet speed slower than advertised?

Like most internet providers, star internet advertised speeds represent maximum speeds the internet connection is capable of, but not necessarily the speeds you should expect to receive consistently.
